The goal of this project is to create a lesson book to guide teachers and beginner students through the first six months of teaching and learning and to create a strong base of knowledge the student can draw upon throughout their time playing the harp. This lesson book is organized in three distinct sections: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. The sections were named to levels to more accurately describe the difficulty of the exercises and content. The lessons are designed to occur once a week so that each section may take two months to complete for a total of six months. The timing of the lessons are ultimately up to the teacher and student, however, as some may need more time while others can progress faster. The lessons are planned to last about 30 minutes, as longer would be difficult for the young student to sit still and pay attention, although the length of the lesson is also up to the teacher and the student. Attached to the lessons are links to the pieces so that the teacher and student may hear how the piece sounds before playing it.

Human beings are social creatures and need social connections to thrive in society. I observed low social connectedness amongst the students with disabilities in my high school and wanted to do more research on the cause of this occurrence. In my literary analysis and proposal, I highlight the effects social isolation and loneliness have on the well-being of people. While concluding that negative health effects come from low social connection, I researched the prevalence of low social connection amongst the disabled population and found that although low social connectedness can impact anyone, those with disabilities experience more low social connectedness than those without disabilities. I then analyzed ways in which low social connection can be addressed and focused on measuring social isolation and loneliness as indicators of low connectedness. I proposed a promising mentorship program intervention for my chosen population, young adults with disabilities, to help them increase social connection. This proposal may be adapted for use with any population. My goal for this program is to help increase social connection, promote societal support, and increase self-esteem and knowledge of their desired career and life skills as they transition into adult roles. Furthermore, I hope this paper may help spread awareness and get society to think of ways interventions to promote social connectedness can be implemented for people, like young adults with disabilities, who experience low social connectedness.

The aim of this thesis is to provision prelicensure nursing faculty at Arizona State University with a supplemental resource and presentation on inclusivity, with specific respect to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, Queer (LGBTQ+) demographic. Background research posits that prelicensure nursing faculty possess limited information about how to teach students to provide inclusive care and communicate respectfully with patients in the LGBTQ+ population group. This project synthesizes current research pertaining to health inequities within this demographic, and summarizes reported patient care experiences of those within this demographic to illustrate a need for prelicensure faculty education in this area. Information from this research was extrapolated, and a supplemental resource regarding inclusivity created, which was presented to prelicensure nursing faculty at a staff meeting using an in-person modality. A survey was conducted at the conclusion of this educational presentation, gathering anonymous demographic data, as well as opinions as to the usefulness of the presentation in the setting of prelicensure nursing education. Results were then analyzed thematically, with 70% of those surveyed currently incorporating some form of LGBTQ+ education within their curriculum. These results suggest the majority of surveyed prelicensure faculty found the educational presentation and accompanying resource both useful and informative, and intend to apply information learned to their future practice as a nursing educator. These findings are significant, as they provide justification for continuing education and the necessity for additional learning experiences in this area.

This study utilized a Convergent Mixed Methods design to identify different expressions of resilience in response to a health/familial problem. The research aimed to determine which specific expressions of resilience were significantly associated with higher levels of resilience. The findings revealed two significant effects related to social support and persistence as expressions of resilience. The High Resilience group exhibited a higher proportion of individuals mentioning persistence and social support in their coping strategies. The study concluded that social support seeking is a major coping strategy among individuals with high resilience and suggested that healthcare providers, particularly nurses, should recommend and provide resources for clients to seek social support. Furthermore, the role of persistence highlights the importance of encouraging clients to set achievable goals, develop a plan, and monitor their progress to remain motivated in resolving their difficult health-related problem.

The Philippines is one of the largest exporters of nurses across the world, yet continues to suffer disproportionately from nursing shortages domestically. The purpose of this paper is to examine the historical context of Filipino nurses in America, regarding the policies of migration and the current context for Filipino nursing labor in the United States. While the United States is just one of the countries to receive imported Filipino laborers, this paper will focus on the continued relationship between the United States and the Philippines to export labor for economical gain on both ends. Upon reviewing the history and policies of Filipino nursing migration to America, the aim is to explore the consequences of this export, relating to healthcare outcomes, emotional distress, and economic stability. This historical review examines the future needs on ethnic studies integration, continued research on the contribution of Filipino nurses to America, policies surrounding exported labor, and the need for changes in the United States clinical nursing practice.

The guiding research question was: How and with which criteria does the public in the Balkan countries of Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina determine which fortune telling methods are or aren’t acceptable in the Catholic community setting? Detailed individual interviews with individuals from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina were used to try developing an answer to the question. The interview question topics ranged from fortune telling to more religious and culturally focused. With 8 female interviewees being willing to answer question, significant insight into the communities revealed the divisions of catholic vs. secular, older vs. younger, and coast vs. inland. Their insight led to the conclusion that Catholic communities in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina determine the acceptability of a fortune telling method based on their familiarity with it from knowledge passed down through elders and their cultural history.
