I have designed a college-level course to help college-aged students build and maintain healthy friendships. Every week, students will engage in collaborative activities and learn a variety of topics related to friendship, including the benefits of friendship, barriers to friendship, and friendship maintenance mechanisms. As part of their final project, students will demonstrate their knowledge of making and maintaining healthy friendships by completing a case study in which students will be expected to apply their learnings from class to a chosen friendship and observe how the friendship changes as a result. In order to establish the need for the course I made, I first conducted a literature review on friendship, loneliness, and factors that may contribute to young adults having difficulties making friends.

This thesis investigates the performance of publicly traded equity real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the United States (U.S.) and their sensitivity to underlying macroeconomic factors. Specifically, this study employs a quantitative research analysis that utilizes technical, correlation, and regression analyses to identify how different REIT sectors react to changes in economic conditions. Data for the study was collected from publicly available and reliable sources, including the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (Nareit) and the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED). Four areas of research guide the study. First, the study explores the relationship between different REIT property sectors and the underlying causes of similarities and differences in sector performance. Second, the study examines how macroeconomic variables, such as GDP, inflation, and interest rates, affect the performance of publicly traded equity REITs. Third, the study investigates the significance of the relationship between macroeconomic factors and REIT sector performance to assess the varying impact on different property types. Finally, the study explores whether a model can be developed to predict the performance of REIT sectors based on macroeconomic variables. Overall, the findings in this study will provide valuable insights into how REITs across and within property types perform and react to changes in the macroeconomic environment. Furthermore, because real estate represents a significant component of the economy, it can offer investors valuable insights into broader economic trends and conditions, contributing to a better understanding of economic cycles and identifying potential opportunities and risks.

This project is called the Zoom Room and it is about the use of virtual reality (VR) for workspace productivity. It is where Zoom and VR meet to form an enhanced productive workspace for users. Equipped with two 3D printers that show how a 3D printer moves and the intricate parts that make up the 3D printer, it is much more than just a standard meeting room. It is a place to analyze machines and meet with others in a virtual space.

Comparison of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus in vivo vs in vitro

Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus (B. bacteriovorus) is a predatory bacterium that preys on other gram-negative bacteria. In order to survive and reproduce, B. bacteriovorus invades the periplasm of other bacterial cells creating the potential for it to act as a “living antibiotic”. In this work, a comparison was made between the rates of predation of B. bacteriovorus in vitro and in vivo. In vitro, the behavior of B. bacteriovorus was examined in the presence of prey. In vivo, the behavior of B. bacteriovorus was examined in the presence of prey and a living host, Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). C. elegans were infected with Escherichia coli (E. coli) and treated with B. bacteriovorus. In previous studies that analyzed B. bacteriovorus in vitro, a decrease in concentrations of bacteria has been observed after introduction of B. bacteriovorus. In vivo, B. bacteriovorus were found to not have a net reduction of E. coli but to reproducibly raise the level of fluctuations in E. coli concentrations.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the impacts of virtue signaling and tokenism within the cosmetic industry and how it relates to corporate social responsibility. Secondary research has been gathered and analyzed to find insight into how these aspects in marketing can impact the profits and other measures of success within business. This will lead to an understanding of how corporate social responsibility can be beneficial to the cosmetic industry, especially as companies grow and expand their target market. This thesis research is based on secondary research built from articles and advertisements. Additionally, research will be pulled from company statistics in profits and sales to determine success in different product launches and the marketing tactics utilized. After analyzing these differences and the types of advertisements that lead to the most successful results, it can be determined that virtue signaling and racial/ethnic tokenism can hinder success potential and thus, in contrast, companies that adhere to the ethical implications within corporate social responsibility will benefit from a reputation of sincerity.

Using data from the 1997 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, this paper seeks to determine the impact of juvenile delinquency on labor market outcomes and educational attainment. Overall, this paper found that having a juvenile conviction leads to decreases in the probability of both full time and regular employment. Men with juvenile adjudications were found to have greater decreases in employment in comparison to women. Regarding educational attainment, this study found that having a juvenile conviction increases the likelihood of dropping out of high school and decreases the likelihood of having a four-year degree or higher. This emphasizes the importance of creating more support and reducing barriers for individuals who have been convicted as juveniles to allow them to succeed in the world post incarceration.

The Greek myths are foundational to Western culture. To this day, school curriculums dedicate portions of their time to teaching the names of the Greek gods and studying Homer’s The Odyssey and Iliad. Outside of an academic setting, countless retellings of the Greek myths have been created for pure enjoyment purposes. Such stories have been marketed to a large range of audiences and have successfully gained world-wide recognition. This project aims to evaluate the mass appeal of the Greek myths as they are retold through Sigmund Freud’s theory of the death and life instincts. These theories manifest in a few different ways, each of which is evident in the genre of Greek myths retold. Utilizing six examples of Greek myth retellings, this project will demonstrate how the theories of the life and death instincts are active in the process of retellings an age-old story as well as how the retellings of the ancient Greek myths, specifically, demonstrate the manifestations of those instincts.

Company X once dominated the server chip market, but its share has begun to diminish due to numerous competitors, product delays, and smaller profit margins. This market will only keep growing as advancement and demand for server technologies continues to expand, therefore, regaining market share is of utmost importance for Company X. This project analyzes how Company X can look into regaining server market share through a diversion of funds into emerging markets. The paper highlights the importance of being an early entrant into a relatively untapped, promising regional market by addressing the economics, potential consumers, and competition. Analysis of these factors shows the potential net present value (NPV) that can be achieved by increasing investments in India.

This thesis first examines the history and contemporary landscape of school mental health, offering evidence for schools as an essential component of the child and adolescent system of care. It then provides contemporary discussion around the importance of design in public administration, as well as analyzes the current design model of school-based mental health services, including key actors, normative assumptions, and underlying conceptual models to demonstrate the outdated presumptions that have led to a model that is not designed to adapt to the unique needs of students, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Building on contemporary theory of design in public administration, I argue that the largely fragmented, decentralized, bureaucratic, complex, and underdeveloped design of school-based mental health services mainly developed in the 1970s and 1980s has reached its limits and cannot adapt to new societal variables. Lastly, I discuss said limitations of this model to argue for a conceptual and practical re-design of the current system of school-based mental health systems in the United States.

Free Trade and the Environmental Impact of Resource Extraction: A Comparative Study of Brazil and Chile Post-Democratization

Mining is a key component of both the Brazilian and Chilean economies and accounts for an outsized share of these countries’ exports. Yet, it is a common target for environmental criticism, especially due to its impacts on local populations and ecosystems. Brazil and Chile have adopted markedly different trade strategies over the past three decades, most notably with regards to their involvement in international trade agreements. This paper investigates how these differences in trade policy since 1990 have affected the sustainability of each country’s mining sector by identifying and comparing the channels through which free trade agreements influence the environmental impacts of resource extraction.
