Gamification with regards to higher education is the use of game design elements in non-game contexts in order to engage and motivate learners. The primary purpose of gamification is to make learning more fun and interesting, as well as to increase learners’ engagement, motivation, and productivity. Video games and the concept of gamification in general have shown positive signs of relieved anxiety and increased enjoyment in many different aspects of life, such as education. The overarching goal of introducing gamification into the college environment is simple: To increase satisfaction, learning, participation, engagement, and retention among the student population.

BYOH2O was developed in efforts to ensure clean water access for individuals while minimizing waste creation and more specifically, reducing plastic. BYOH2O (Bring Your Own H2O) is a revolutionary device that provides clean water for outdoor recreational trips such as backpacking, hiking, hunting, and cycling. The BYOH2O company was created in August 2021. BYOH2O is a device that significantly reduces the amount of plastic that is typically found in portable water devices by allowing the easy filtration of water without the need for electricity.

Fast fashion has contributed to this low rate of utilization, as well as the high amounts of textiles that end up in landfills. Our startup, Patchwork Apparel, was designed to address this problem. Our clothes were made with fabric scraps or donated textiles that would otherwise end up in landfills. The mission of our business was to develop trendy and sustainable apparel that helped to eliminate textile waste while staying on brand with current fashion trends.

If one investigates the atmosphere at your standard university campus, there is no doubt that all students are exhausted in their own unique way. The various responsibilities and obligations inherent in the academic course load, student organizations, sports teams, and other extracurricular activities that a student commits to fosters this stress. A common pattern, especially among students, is the progression from stress to exhaustion to lack of motivation, or helplessness. The Mayo Clinic published an article stating: “when stress begins to accumulate from negative or challenging events in life that just keep coming, you can find yourself in a state of feeling emotionally worn out and drained” (https://www.facebook.com/MayoClinicHealthSystem, 2020). That being said, the implementation of gamification in the college experience can significantly improve intrinsic motivation within students, thus reducing the stress and exhaustion. Students struggle with finding the right connections and networking required to get that dream job they have always wanted after completing their degree. As students graduating this year, it is related to us in a big way that we create a website that makes the job easier for students and employees to connect and get the job they are looking for. Our group decided to create a website that will give these students an opportunity to show a little bit of their personality to employers along with their skills and attributes that they would provide to a company. The website also gives employers the opportunity to narrow the search for a candidate and get the employee they are looking for in their company. The goal is to make looking for a job easier for newly graduated college students that are starting their careers. We have also created a link from our website that can be used to put on your Linkedin or other various websites to promote yourself. With the addition of our video feature and other qualities about the person, we believe our website is unique and will help candidates get the job they are looking for.

Forming a solution to this problem is an idea, Crove, a website tool that can be used by students applying to companies as well as recruiters searching for the right candidate. As Crove becomes the mediator between employers and employees, it will formulate a smooth form of interaction among the two parties. With Crove, students have the ability to display their resumes with skills in addition to their non-job related skills, such as hobbies, Spotify playlist, etc. This will help recruiters truly understand the potential employee outside of technical skills. Furthermore, the student will have the opportunity to upload a short video about themselves; this can help recruiters get a sense of the candidate's personality and in some cases, help with the behavioral part of the interview process. This unique platform benefits both employers and employees with its distinctive features.
