Looking specifically at the Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) market segment, there is a significant gap in the use of data analytics. Only 15% of SMBs have a “data-driven” culture. Companies that leverage data to drive decision-making have seen increased revenue, profit, and employee output. Despite the benefits, SMB owners run into three main issues. First, a lack of bandwidth as time and human capital are stretched thin. Second, technical expertise as many analytics tools require coding expertise or knowledge of systems and tools which many SMBs do not possess. Lastly, many SMBs lack the finances to invest in costly tools or subject matter experts. Enterprise-level organizations will continue to invest in analytics leaving SMBs behind and increasing economic inequality. Our solution is DataMate, a Data as a Service (DaaS) no-code, low-cost, and low-time intensive platform designed to provide end-to-end analytics solutions for SMB owners. The platform allows users to automatically pull data from sources (ex. point of sale, customer relationship management, etc.), store data in a centralized location, and lastly, visualize data through dashboards to enable SMBs with data-driven decision-making capabilities. Once at scale, we will be able to create models and deliver advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics.

The global data-as-a-service industry market was valued at $5.5B in 2021 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 36.9% until 2030. SMBs account for a minority of global revenue share but are expected to grow faster than large enterprises. The Total Addressable Market (TAM) for the data-as-a-service industry of small and medium-sized businesses in the United States is roughly $1.02B and the Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM) is roughly $2.6M. The DaaS industry is highly competitive with high customer bargaining power and large growth potential. Some direct competitors to DataMate are FiveTran, Looker, Domo, and Alteryx. While offering similar data infrastructure services, no solution can achieve DataMate’s unique product value proposition. A fully operational platform will require considerable technical investment. Our go-to-market strategy consists of a manual and automated phase. To start, leveraging the expertise of data/business analysts to manually build end-to-end analytics solutions. Concurrently, we plan to build an automated platform. By starting to manually build, we can bring revenue on day one while solidifying template dashboards and ETL flows. Additionally, DataMate will start building data solutions only in the restaurant vertical given its large market segment and homogeneity of tools. Given the numerous variations in data needs between SMB industries, a step-by-step rollout allows for quality integration. Eventually, the platform will expand to all industries.

At Arizona State University, there are currently not enough resources for students pursuing the business behind the motion picture and television industry. With in-depth knowledge and research of the industry, we will provide background on the industry as a whole and then a structured business degree that will be integrated within the W. P. Carey school of business.

The following paper builds upon version one of The Women’s Power and Influence Index (WPI). The WPI Index is a product created by The Difference Engine, a center at ASU, to address gender inequality in the workplace. The WPI Index ranks Fortune 500 companies on various criteria and releases the information to the public in an easy-to-understand manner. Following the first release in 2021, we aim to help the WPI Index continue to grow by researching social movements that can inspire the Index, suggesting additional criteria for version 1.5, and raising awareness through events and social media. Part I of the paper details how social movements have utilized social pressure and social media to create broad change, setting the stage for the WPI Index’s public rankings to incentivize change. Part II provides research on new criteria we propose to be added to the Index for the next release. Lastly, part III covers how we used TikTok, events, and partnerships to help the Index gain notoriety. Altogether the paper suggests new directions and provides scientific research to further the goals of the WPI Index.

Until the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) vs. Alston, student-athletes were not allowed to be compensated for the millions of dollars in revenue they generate for universities. While universities cannot directly pay student-athletes, student-athletes can now make money based off their name, image, and likeness (NIL). NIL legislation has the potential (and has begun to) change college recruiting with the transfer portal and free agency landscape. Now, schools can bake NIL connections into their recruiting pitch, creating a recruiting renaissance. This research is an empirical study to determine the factors that contribute to an athlete’s NIL valuation and earnings. A hierarchical mixed-model analysis run in SAS also is used to analyze the data. The significance of this study includes providing schools and athletes with vital information pertaining to their fiscal valuation during the recruiting process. The findings can help families and student athletes to better estimate expected NIL earnings.

My Barrett Honors Thesis focuses on answering the question of whether a current owner of a single family home in Tempe, Arizona would receive an adequate return on investment (“ROI”) to justify adding an accessory dwelling unit (“ADU”) on their property for the purpose of generating rental income and capital appreciation. I focused my research on Tempe’s zoning regulations, ADU general contractor (“GC”) options, possible parcels, proposed construction plans and budget, and lastly, a pro forma to determine ROI. After conducting the research, discussing with several GCs, and modeling returns, I determined that unlevered ADU development constitutes a novelty, not a solid investment choice with today’s market conditions. Factors that would change this recommendation decision would include a decrease in interest rates or a tempering of construction costs.

This thesis will focus on increasing the engagement of members within the W.P. Carey Business Ambassadors. This was done by first analyzing the environments the organization exists in: Arizona State University and the W.P. Carey School of Business. Each of these organizations contextualize the Business Ambassadors, providing a structure for the organization to operate within. Next, the organization’s processes are analyzed. This provides a current status of the club to be used a foundation for systematic review. Through this review, it is revealed that members often do the bare minimum required for the organization. In fact, only a select few fully taking advantage of the events offered by the club. To fix this, the management techniques outlined in the thesis’ primary source, Reframing Organizations by Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal, are introduced as ways to assist managers in problem sectors or areas of opportunity. These areas of review are the Structural, Human Resources, Political, and Symbolic frameworks. Each frame is explored and described, eventually being contextualized with the Business Ambassadors organization. These frames then provide insights to ways the organization can invoke greater participation from its members. These solutions include investing in training and mentorship, fulfilling member needs, promoting leadership, and leveraging the symbolic strength of the organization. The paper concludes with next steps for the organization and ways the solutions can be put into action with respect to the club’s goals.
