The Stan Kenton Clinics changed music education in American public schools by providing inspiring jazz learning experiences to countless students and music teachers. Stan Kenton was a well-known mid-twentieth century jazz big band leader who devoted his time, money, and fame in support of these educational clinics. The clinics began in 1959 under the auspices of the National Stage Band Camps and continued until Kenton's death in 1979. The present study comprises a first-of-its-kind history of the clinics, focusing primarily on the first five years of their existence. This history is subsequently used as a case for contemplating future changes to music education.

Einstein's theory of special relativity has been used by accomplished science fiction authors since its discovery in 1905, allowing intrepid adventurers to reach far away worlds without having to fear time's passage. By traveling near light speed, these fictional travelers experience a different passage of time as the universe ensures the commonality of the speed of light in all reference frames. In the here and now, this method of travel has been proposed to assist in interstellar and interplanetary exploration. This paper will investigate the practicality of this method of travel by proposing a mission utilizing a craft with this type of velocity.

Examination of Embouchure Force During Clarinet Performance

Description
Proper clarinet embouchure presents a pedagogical conundrum simply because the many forces involved cannot be observed visually, and many pedagogical resources state conflicting opinions often based on subjective "feel" rather than any empirical data. In order to broaden our understanding

Proper clarinet embouchure presents a pedagogical conundrum simply because the many forces involved cannot be observed visually, and many pedagogical resources state conflicting opinions often based on subjective "feel" rather than any empirical data. In order to broaden our understanding of clarinet embouchure dynamics, seven professional clarinetists were asked to perform various tasks using thin-film force sensors to measure embouchure and thumb forces. The results indicate variations in how clarinetists apply embouchure forces during performance.

Since the acceptance of Einstein's special theory of relativity by the scientific community, authors of science fiction have used the concept of time dilation to permit seemingly impossible feats. Simple spacecraft acceleration schemes involving time dilation have been considered by scientists and fiction writers alike. Using an original Java program based upon the differential equations for special relativistic kinematics, several scenarios for round trip excursions at relativistic speeds are calculated and compared, with particular attention to energy budget and relativistic time passage in all relevant frames.
