The use of Artificial Intelligence in assistive systems is growing in application and efficiency. From self-driving cars, to medical and surgical robots and industrial tasked unsupervised co-robots; the use of AI and robotics to eliminate human error in high-stress environments and perform automated tasks is something that is advancing society’s status quo. Not only has the understanding of co-robotics exploded in the industrial world, but in research as well. The National Science Foundation (NSF) defines co-robots as the following: “...a robot whose main purpose is to work with people or other robots to accomplish a goal” (NSF, 1). The latest iteration of their National Robotics Initiative, NRI-2.0, focuses on efforts of creating co-robots optimized for ‘scalability, customizability, lowering barriers to entry, and societal impact’(NSF, 1). While many avenues have been explored for the implementation of co-robotics to create more efficient processes and sustainable lifestyles, this project’s focus was on societal impact co-robotics in the field of human safety and well-being. Introducing a co-robotics and computer vision AI solution for first responder assistance would help bring awareness and efficiency to public safety. The use of real-time identification techniques would create a greater range of awareness for first responders in high-stress situations. A combination of environmental features collected through sensors (camera and radar) could be used to identify people and objects within certain environments where visual impairments and obstructions are high (eg. burning buildings, smoke-filled rooms, ect.). Information about situational conditions (environmental readings, locations of other occupants, etc.) could be transmitted to first responders in emergency situations, maximizing situational awareness. This would not only aid first responders in the evaluation of emergency situations, but it would provide useful data for the first responder that would help materialize the most effective course of action for said situation.

This essay serves as a study of the pre-internet analogues to the modern internet meme, as well as the origins and cultural transmission thereof. I would like to take a deeper look into the history of this kind of cultural phenomenon and how these “proto-memes” arose, spread, and translated between cultures before the internet facilitated all of these functions. This would then be contrasted to how this occurs currently. There are many studies that examine the cultural impact and workings of internet memes, but markedly fewer that take a look at what came before them and how this aspect of culture evolved. It is reasonable, and accurate, to determine that the internet has been a monumental factor in the meteoric rise of memetic culture, but every culture must have had their own equivalent humor in the form of inside jokes and shared humorous stories. These can and have taken several different forms, such as critique of Napoleon’s height, political cartoons, and even graffiti. I will be taking a look at cultural movements and trends in several pre-internet cultures, including Ancient Greece, Britain, and 20th century America. I will then be examining the origin, spread, and cross-cultural impact that these trends had in comparison to what can be expected of internet memes in the current day. Several of the aforementioned cultural trends are things that are recognized today and managed to spread surprisingly well given limited communication. As expected, the internet makes it much easier to create, share, repurpose, and spread memes than ever before. However, many of the proto-memes from older civilizations are still recognized and discussed today, meaning they have withstood the test of time miraculously well and likely better than any modern memes ever will.

The purpose of this project is to analyze the MIT OpenCourseWare coffee can radar design and modify it to be better suited for drone based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications while maintaining the low-cost aspect of the original design. The MIT coffee can radar can function as a ranged radar, a Doppler radar, or as SAR. Through simulations and research, the suggestions for how to modify the radar resulted in swapping the coffee can monopole antennas for patch antenna arrays or helical ordinary end-fire antennas, adding an Arduino for automatic recording of output pulses, and switching from a breadboard construction to a PCB to shrink form factor and keep costs and construction time low.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on college recruiting trends. Before determining the future of recruiting events, a detailed outline of the logistics needed to plan a large-scale career fair event, specifically the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) career fair, is analyzed. SCMA is a student-run undergraduate organization at Arizona State University that hosts many professional events and opportunities for undergraduate students. Every semester, SCMA hosts a career fair that attracts desirable small and large companies across all industries. The logistics for both the in-person and virtual SCMA career fair are examined in the paper, with project scheduling, contingency planning, and benchmark data made available. Based on the comparison of both career fair formats, the strengths and weaknesses of each have been identified. Ultimately, the future of college career fairs is proposed based on survey feedback from SCMA career fair attendees, external research, and key discussion points throughout the report.

The state of Arizona has one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country.
Therefore, many different resources and intervention programs are designed to help prevent
at-risk students from dropping out and making sure they graduate on time - typically within four
years. However, one extremely underutilized but highly effective resource for intervention is
peer tutoring. Peer tutoring is a well-known method of active learning within the classroom
where students assist one another, but it is rarely used systematically as a way to support at-risk
students with the goal of increasing academic performance to decrease the number of dropouts.
This thesis and creative project takes a look at the inception, development, and growth of
PeerSquared, Inc., a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation, founded by chief executive officer,
Michael Wang, on his journey to help Arizona high schools build and scale sustainable and
systematically-integrated, 1-on-1, peer-to-peer tutoring programs. This paper will account
Michael’s motivation for this mission and the growth of PeerSquared from its inception in
November 2018 up to August 2020. For context, the COVID-19 pandemic began noticeably
impacting Arizona in late-March 2020 when schools decided to not resume in-person school in
favor of distance learning resulting in a necessary pivot for PeerSquared.

This project aimed to find implementable solutions to the long flow times at the Starbucks locations on campus. Surveys of the consumers indicated a dissatisfaction rating of 29%, neutral rating of 29% and satisfaction rating of 42%. Showing room for improvement in satisfaction, respondents were asked if a decrease in flow time or if mobile ordering was implemented would affect their frequency, over 50% responded that it would increase their frequency. Implementation of a mobile ordering system into the ASU app or separating the register line into M&G only and then cash and card only, is recommended to decrease the flow time.

The goal of this research paper is to analyze how we define economic success and how that affects large corporations and consumers. This paper asks the questions: What do we define as a good economy? What metrics are currently utilized? And how do perceptions of a good economy influence politics? Overall, the research seeks to identify common economic and financial fallacies held by the average citizen and offer alternative methods of how socio-economic information is presented to the consumers. Consumers play a major role in the market, and the information they receive has a considerable impact on their behaviors. Determining why the present economic analysis is used is the first step in finding ways to improve the system. Observing past political and economic trends and relating them to current issues is necessary for finding future solutions.

In this paper I will be addressing whether Judaism accepts organ donation. A problem that faces society today is the lack of people who are registered as organ donors. This is not only a problem in the religious world, but also the secular world. A common issue for individuals is the belief that their religion is against organ donation and does not support it. Even people who don’t practice their religion strictly bring up this issue. While this might be the case for some religions and certain parts of a religion, the majority of religions are in favor of and support organ donation to save another life. This paper explores what the religion of Judaism has to say on the matter of organ donation. There are different types of ways that one can donate their organs and this paper seeks to understand what Judaism has to say about each type of organ donation. Each type of donation brings up issues of their own because of the importance that Judaism puts on life. Judaism believes that humans are put on Earth by God and will be taken off Earth by God. This brings up the issue of what defines death, especially in regard to people who have been pronounced brain dead. As a result, each situation should be dealt with on a case by case basis and one should consult with their local rabbi on whether it would be permissible to donate their organs.

During the First and Second World Wars, the totality of global war and the involvement of the United States necessitated the use of American women within military medical services as nurses. Military nursing served as a catalyst for professionalizing nursing as well as the entrance women into US military jobs. This thesis explores American women’s military nursing roles during WWI and WWII within the historical context of the precedence set for female nurses’ involvement in wartime medical service in both the American Civil War and the Spanish Civil War. In so doing, it seeks to answer specific research questions focused on nurse’s wartime experiences, the formality of their role, and public perceptions of female nurses. I will examine the change over time of these issues and reasons for their evolution.
