The app uses a 4-part circle system where users track their everyday progress in the following areas: diet, exercise, development, and mental wellness. Users can form groups with friends and family members to provide support to one another. Through tracking their daily activities, users can earn tokens which are redeemable for relevant discounts. The app also hosts a variety of ways for users to be recognized for their healthy routine such as challenge trophies, activity history, and other social features. Overall, Circle Up aims to improve the daily routines of individuals to propel them into a healthier lifestyle.

For the honors thesis project, a group of five individuals collaborated to design and implement a sustainable business in the ASU community. Kandi Society is a rising jewelry brand whose top priorities include giving recycled plastic a new purpose, philanthropy, and making a welcoming, creative environment for our customers. We designed the Eco-Bead with 3D CAD modeling and produced it through a process called plastic injection molding which is explained in detail in the final paper. Kandi Society instilled a positive impact on ASU students by igniting a sustainability spark and increasing interest in repurposing materials in the future.

Devils Discard is an upcoming e-commerce platform whose mission is to make transactions safer for students first at Arizona State University and then at campuses around the world. When a student becomes interested in using the platform and makes an account, they are subjected to an information matching process to verify that that the student is currently enrolled. The student sees posts from students on his campus, and his or her posts are more likely to be seen by students on the same campus as the student. Unlike Craigslist and Offer UP, users do not post addresses. Instead, students post a location on campus to meet and sell/trade items. These mechanisms are intended to provide a safer place for students to make sales than other platforms could offer. The timetable for the launch of the platform at the moment is before May 2023. This paper will outline the business model this concept will follow in terms of its branding, consumer interaction, marketing strategy, and potential source of income and expenses.

We explored the sourcing and foundations of paper needs, supporting our assumption that paper can be created from agricultural waste. We solidified a business plan using agricultural waste after considerable sourcing research and expert and consumerism input. We determined that using forest foliage that is a potential fire hazard from a national forest could be used as a source to make alternative paper as well as contribute to sustainability efforts.

Cancer is a problem of multicellularity, making it a problem across all species. This pervasiveness has led to much research into the defense and the pathology of the disease. Previously, studies have been limited in sample size, taxonomic breadth, and comparative methods to explain and understand the data available. Here, we have access to life history and cancer risk data of 17,563 individuals for 327 species, spanning across three monophyletic clades: Amphibians, Sauropsids, and Mammals. Comparative biology’s approach to cross-species cancer prevalence is crucial to the identification of species that are uniquely resistant to cancer as well as stratifying risk across a phylogeny based on the life history framework. Using the life history framework, alongside a multitude of life history data, was able to find that neoplasia prevalence increases with adult weight and longevity, but decreases with gestation time. It was also discovered that malignancy prevalence decreases with gestation time. Gestation and adult weight are also both significant predictors of neoplasia and malignancy prevalence when controlling for the other. On an evolutionary scale, cancer risk appears to be best described by sudden shifts in cancer prevalence followed by stabilizing selection of that trait. The understanding of increases and decreases of cancer risk across species could create better insight on human’s own cancer risk, as well as disease prevention in humans.
