This thesis project explored relationships between factors that may play a role in the intake individuals college students have. Understanding the relationships in previous research between screen time, social context and nutrition the researchers looked to explore these with a new population. College students had not been researched in the study much prior and through the date collected and the relationships observed the researchers were able to see how screen time and social context each affect nutrition, and how they affect each other.

Influencer marketing is a fairly new concept within the marketing industry. Even though this strategy of digital marketing has not been around too long, it has grown an immense amount over the last 5 years. This thesis analyzes how influencer marketing affects consumer behavior. This was done through a literature review that highlights how consumers make decisions, the influencer marketing industry, and two case studies that evaluate influencer marketing campaigns along with their effects on consumer behavior. In addition, an online survey was distributed to consumers who actively follow influencers on social media to capture respondents’ attitudes of influencers and if they have been affected by them. The analysis of the responses showed that in this study, females are more affected by influencers than when compared to male responses. Other key insights were that the majority of respondents do not trust influencers; but yet, they still follow their content and take interest into influencers’ recommendations. The results indicate that there is a complex relationship between influencers and their followers that can be investigated upon further research. I recommend that influencers become more transparent with their followers to gain trust and authenticity so their followers view them as a credible and reliable source. Implementing the recommendations in this thesis can lead to more trust between influencers and their followers, as well as, more effective social media influencer campaigns for companies.

The global climate crisis threatens to negatively affect all human activity on earth. Within the United States, the Green New Deal is the only proposal that plans to address and stop the climate crisis in full, promising net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, green jobs, rebuilt infrastructure, access to resources, and reparations for frontline and vulnerable communities, achieved within it's 10-year mobilization period. If enacted, public transportation would be one of the first areas for intervention. Within the Phoenix Valley, a shift to public transportation would not only aid in stopping the climate crisis, but would improve resident equity, comfortability, and increase quality of life. In order to build up an effective public transportation system, all potential and current obstacles that public transit faces and will face in the wake of a Green New Deal must be analyzed: local government capacity, resident attitudes, current city layout and urban sprawl, the security of federal funding, and corporate opposition are addressed in this thesis. The security of federal funding and corporate opposition are the biggest obstacles of transit growth and create four distinct scenarios that the Phoenix Valley can utilize to understand progress towards the Green New Deal's Goals.

A Global Climate Crisis: Why is Arizona Behind The Renewable Energy Curve?

Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) continue to contribute heavily to global warming. It is estimated that the international community has only until 2050 to eliminate total carbon emissions or risk irreversible climate change. Arizona, despite its vast solar energy resources, is particularly behind in the global transition to carbon-free energy. This paper looks to explore issues that may be preventing Arizona from an efficient transition to carbon-free generation technologies. Identifiable factors include outdated state energy generation standards, lack of oversight and accountability of Arizona’s electricity industry regulatory body, and the ability for regulated utilities to take advantage of “dark money” campaign contributions. Various recommendations for mitigating the factors preventing Arizona from a carbon-free future are presented. Possibilities such as modernizing state energy generation standards, increasing oversight and accountability of Arizona’s electricity industry regulatory body, and potential market restructuring which would do away with the traditional regulated utility framework are explored. The goal is to inform readers of the issues plaguing the Arizona energy industry and recommend potential solutions moving forward.

Electromagnetic Field Strength Analysis with Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Patients

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a stimulating therapy currently used to treat the motor disabilities that occur as a result of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Previous literature has proven the DBS to be an effective treatment in the effects of PD but the mechanism to validating this phenomenon is poorly understood. In this study, an evaluation of the DBS mechanism was analyzed in patients who received both contralateral and ipsilateral stimulation by the DBS electrode in relation to the recording microelectrode. I hypothesize that the data recorded from the neural tissue of the Parkinson’s patients will exhibit increased electromagnetic field (EMF) fall-off as spatial distance increases among the DBS lead and the microelectrode within the subthalamic nucleus (STN) as a result of the interaction between the EMF exuded by DBS and the neural tissue. Results depicted that EMF fall-off values increased with distance, observable upon comparing ipsilateral and contralateral patient data. The resulting analysis supported this phenomenon evidenced by the production of greater peak voltage amplitudes in ipsilateral patient stimulation with respect to time when compared to contralateral patient stimulation. The understanding of EMF strength and the associated trends among this data are vital to the progression and continued development of the DBS field relative to future research.

This paper argues that improved student disability services at universities can limit the amount of stress that burdens students with disabilities in order to, improve their mood and create greater possibilities for successful student outcomes. This study begins by reviewing the progress that has been made in the 20th and 21st centuries in terms of heightened awareness and legislation that benefit people with disabilities. In addition, it applauds the efforts made so far at the Arizona State University Polytechnic and Tempe campuses, but also seeks to highlight some concerns that might become a focus of future policymaking endeavors. The applause and concerns are based on the experience of the author with ASU’s Disability Resource Center (DRC), now rebranded as the Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services (SAILS). The author’s lens of physical/mobility limitations yields insight into the accessibility of the unique programs
offered by ASU’s Study Abroad Office as well as the daily transportation efforts of the DRC/SAILS’s DART service. The particular experiences discussed include a Barrett Global Intensive Experience trip to Ireland, the use of the on-campus DART transportation service at Polytechnic and Tempe, handicap parking and elevator placement at Polytechnic, the intercampus shuttle, and the future of Zoom as a means of providing accessibility to students with disabilities. This paper will make recommendations to the appropriate parties for possible changes to policy and/or procedure and alterations to the current state of tangible obstacles.
