Dancing Bodies in Extended Reality for Body, Mind and Beyond
Document
Description
This research explores the integration of dance, media technologies, and psychological concepts to enhance body-mind-beyond awareness, emphasizing a holistic approach to well-being. The study investigates how extended reality technologies, including virtual reality and motion capture, can be utilized in dance to foster healing, consciousness expansion, and a deeper connection between the body, mind and spirit. Utilizing both practice-led and research-led methodologies, the project demonstrates how sensory and cognitive experiences in dance can be transformed through digital technologies. The "Category Five: Immersive Dance Experience" case study highlights the potential of immersive environments to engage audiences in a narrative that promotes physical, mental, and spiritual healing. Future research directions include the development of virtual reality environments for real-time movement observation, exploring augmented and mixed reality technologies, and investigating the impact of submodalities on the mind-body connection. This interdisciplinary approach aims to revolutionize the field of dance and performing arts, offering new tools for learning, therapy, and artistic expression.
