Description
Although previous work on body image was centered around women, recently there has been research done including male body image perception. The purpose of this paper is to see the affects of social media on male body image and how this aspect interplays within gym culture. This study specifically examines the impact of social media on the perspective of males and their body, as well as its potential influence on their mental well-being. It also looked at if men were taking any steps to improve their mental health. Overall, the study found that social media plays a different role then anticipated towards male body image perception and mental health. Many viewed it as a source of inspiration and motivation rather than a source of discomfort for their own personal body image perception.
