In an era that is reliant on technology, the extent of the Fourth Amendment’s applicability to this technology has subsequently become blurred. With more information trickling out of our phones with each passing day, the amount of data accumulated by corporations is respectively growing larger. The accumulation of such information is denoted as “big data”. Big data refers to large sets of information garnered by artificial intelligence. Such data sets can contain anything from an individual’s browser history to their medical records. Through mining of this data, corporations or the government can ascertain “protected personal information” (PPI). Whether society is aware of it or not, individual data is constantly shifting hands in the digital realm. For this reason, the question of whether such information constitutes protection under the Fourth Amendment must be clarified. With society’s utter reliance on technology, it would be difficult for citizens to prevent or avoid the dissemination of their PPI through their (sometimes) inadvertent waivers of their right to keep this information private. However, the benefits derived from big data may outweigh the trepidations of individuals due to its potential for administering a predictive approach to policing.

Environmental activism has played a major role in American politics since the late 1800s, with major victories including the National Park Service Organic Act of 1916 that established the National Park Service to help protect parks and monuments, the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts of the 1960s and 1970s, and the phase-out of ozone depleting chemicals in the 1990s. Yet mainstream activism has stagnated in recent years, facing a variety of problems such as continuing to perpetuate a corporate system in which frontline and minority communities are left behind and only focusing on traditional methods like lobbying and indirect activism that fail to generate mass public support. In contrast, the Sunrise Movement is a new youth-oriented environmental and social organization that has become prevalent in the last five years for their aim to combat both climate change and socioeconomic inequalities through the Green New Deal. With the growing need for climate action that is fair and equitable, this project intended to contextualize the Sunrise Movement within past and current environmental movements as well as the current environmental and political climate in order to then investigate how Sunrise operates and their level of effectiveness in promoting the Green New Deal. I performed a literature review of both past and present news articles as well as journal articles in addition to interviewing experts in the theory and practice of activism to characterize the three waves of environmentalism and lessons learned, the current political sphere and what mainstream activism is working toward, and Sunrise itself. While mainstream and localized radical activism had victories and a certain degree of effectiveness, their lack of inclusivity has failed to encourage the mass mobilization needed for long-term climate legislation. The Sunrise Movement distinguishes itself through disruptive activism and direct engagement: disruptive by challenging the status quo of profit over people, the two party system where both groups are moving toward the right, and the whiteness and liberal locations of the mainstream environmental movement; direct by working with partners across the environmental, social, and labor sphere and working with actionable, hands-on items that encourage participation. Though they have major limitations like ensuring that they are as inclusive as they recognize an environmental movement must be and the risk of being seen as a partisan organization, Sunrise shows that the attitude of the public is moving in favor of the climate and social equity.

The original scope of this project was to have several conducting experiences and written records about the conductor’s experiences. Due to COVID-19, the focus of the paper has shifted to documenting the preparation, rehearsal, and performance "Recombobulation" (2016) by Theresa Martin. Using the templates found in the "Teaching Music Through Performance in Band" book series as a model, combined with the author’s personal narrative of their experience, this paper aims to serve as a resource for both people considering programming this piece of music as well as early career conductors who strive to improve their craft.

Career development is an integral part of any undergraduate experience as it helps students to really focus in on what they want to pursue in their future and helps make sure they are completing all the necessary steps to get there. One key step of the career development process is the internship. Securing an internship during college allows students to test-drive their chosen field of study to discover what they like and what they don’t like about the field, network with professionals already in the field, and practice applying classroom knowledge to real life. ASU has assisted students with this step of the career development process by including an internship requirement for a handful of degree programs. While this is a really great requirement in order to make sure students are prepared for the real world, ASU’s resolve to only give students credit for the traditional internships that they take part in is becoming incredibly detrimental to the learning experience of students as their options, especially in the pandemic world we currently find ourselves in, are increasingly limited. Finding an internship to fulfill this requirement is harder than it has ever been. Organizations simply don’t have internship spots available, and the organizations that do have very limited hands-on work experiences that they’re able to provide their interns with. One solution to this is providing on-campus student leaders the option to get class credit towards their degree for the work they do in their positions. The career development and experience that student leaders receive when they’re in their on-campus positions is virtually unparalleled in any traditional internship setting and should be treated as such in our academic society. If we were able to change the way society views the traditional internship, not only would this help alleviate some of the stress our student leaders feel when searching for and completing an internship during this time, but it would also encourage students to return to campus and participate in the ASU community in a positive way.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on college recruiting trends. Before determining the future of recruiting events, a detailed outline of the logistics needed to plan a large-scale career fair event, specifically the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) career fair, is analyzed. SCMA is a student-run undergraduate organization at Arizona State University that hosts many professional events and opportunities for undergraduate students. Every semester, SCMA hosts a career fair that attracts desirable small and large companies across all industries. The logistics for both the in-person and virtual SCMA career fair are examined in the paper, with project scheduling, contingency planning, and benchmark data made available. Based on the comparison of both career fair formats, the strengths and weaknesses of each have been identified. Ultimately, the future of college career fairs is proposed based on survey feedback from SCMA career fair attendees, external research, and key discussion points throughout the report.

This project covers the history, function, and issues with campus policing in general across the United States and specifically at Arizona State University. With campus policing overall, this project discusses the issues of power and issues of race, racial profiling, and racism. With the Arizona State University police department, this project discusses the issues of how sexual assault has been handled, issues of transparency, lack of screening/qualifications/training, and issues of race, racial profiling, and racism. All of these issues are studied using specific cases and instances. Several suggestions for improvement are then covered, including the removal of police presence on campus, improved training, and increased accountability and transparency measures.

at-risk students from dropping out and making sure they graduate on time

The state of Arizona has one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country.
Therefore, many different resources and intervention programs are designed to help prevent
at-risk students from dropping out and making sure they graduate on time - typically within four
years. However, one extremely underutilized but highly effective resource for intervention is
peer tutoring. Peer tutoring is a well-known method of active learning within the classroom
where students assist one another, but it is rarely used systematically as a way to support at-risk
students with the goal of increasing academic performance to decrease the number of dropouts.
This thesis and creative project takes a look at the inception, development, and growth of
PeerSquared, Inc., a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation, founded by chief executive officer,
Michael Wang, on his journey to help Arizona high schools build and scale sustainable and
systematically-integrated, 1-on-1, peer-to-peer tutoring programs. This paper will account
Michael’s motivation for this mission and the growth of PeerSquared from its inception in
November 2018 up to August 2020. For context, the COVID-19 pandemic began noticeably
impacting Arizona in late-March 2020 when schools decided to not resume in-person school in
favor of distance learning resulting in a necessary pivot for PeerSquared.

This study examined associations between reports of receiving information on sexual education topics common to different sexual education curricula (e.g. abstinence only until marriage, comprehensive) and reported confidence in sexual communication of information and preferences, taking into account information received from school health classes, parents/guardians, online resources, and peers.
Data used from 293 participants aged 18-25 was used to perform descriptive analyses and linear regressions adjusted for significant covariates. Exposure to a comprehensive sexual education curriculum was found to be significantly positively associated with increased sexual communication confidence, while exposure to an abstinence only until marriage curriculum was not found to be a significant predictor. All resources were found to be positively associated with sexual communication confidence with the exception of health class, which was an insignificant predictor.
Comprehensive sexual education is an important factor in increasing young adults’ confidence in sexual communication of information and preferences. However, sexual education delivery in health classes in the United States is currently ineffective. A reevaluation of how sexual education should be delivered in the United States is needed.
