Description
Inspired by the great film editor Walter Murch, and his book In the Blink of an Eye, I decided to take a deep dive into understanding one powerful filmmaking technique: seamless transitions. I started by studying the impressive work of professional directors and editors and then applied the information I learned in practice to ultimately boil the technique down to its essence and understand how to make seamless transitions regularly in my own creative work. As film editing is my major and career path, the choice to present the culmination of my study in practice in the form of a video-essay felt natural and appropriate for this project.

Description
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks healthy joints. This in turn causes inflammation resulting in pain and swelling. It is very important to get RA accurately diagnosed and treated as early as possible. Similarly, with any disease: the longer it is left untreated, the more damage it can cause. RA can cause irreversible joint damage leading to disability. The purpose of this study is to determine if oral microbiome can be used as an additional criterion to aid in diagnosing RA. Several oral microbes have already been identified as biomarkers for RA in saliva. In this study, 10 participants were recruited: 6 diagnosed with RA and 4 Healthy as a control. Two subgroups of RA were done within this study; those diagnose with a positive Rheumatoid Factor (RF) and those diagnose with a negative RF. These subgroups were then compared in order to determine the validity of using certain microbes as biomarkers for RA even when different diagnostic criteria were met. The microbe Parahaemolyticus had the largest measure of effect, showing the greatest potential for statistically significant results with a larger sample size. If we can work narrow to down specific microbes to be undoubtedly higher in abundance with already diagnosed RA patients when comparing to healthy participants, this will be a gamechanger. Not only could we give a higher sense of confidence with the diagnosis of RA, but this could streamline RA diagnosis.

Description
This project took thesis written in Mandarin researching heavy metal pollution in the Jiangsu region of province and translated it to English. Then the reflection process was discussed, considering the translation challenges between Mandarin and English and how the scientific nature of the piece played into that process.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine can help prevent numerous cancers and genital warts. Traditionally, pediatricians and family medicine providers administer the vaccine. However, pharmacists can also vaccinate against HPV. The objective for this study is to assess Arizona pharmacists’ behaviors and influences in relation to administering the HPV vaccine. We administered a survey to Arizona pharmacists at a statewide virtual conference. The key points that are assessed: pharmacists’ behaviors, intentions, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral in relation to the human papillomavirus vaccination. Looking at the measures, the leading outcomes of the study involved the HPV vaccination behavior and intentions to administer the vaccine. Secondary outcomes related more to the Theory of Planned Behavior constructs, which ended up being stronger with predictions of HPV vaccine administration intentions and behavior. Our results show that most of pharmacists held very positive attitudes (on a Likert Scale of 1-5)towards the HPV vaccine. It looked like attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norm combined had a big influence on HPV vaccination intentions; however, the strongest predictor came down to the subjective norms, in administering the vaccine. Pharmacists believed strongly with implementing the HPV vaccine, and want to do so in the near future. In conclusion, the overall point of the study is that there should be a need in increasing pharmacy professionals’ subjective norms to vaccinate against the HPV in order to accelerate pharmacy-based HPV immunizations. Implementing human papillomavirus vaccine promotions in the near future could help engage leadership in pharmacy, and further encourage pharmacists’ awareness to administer the vaccine. Additionally, raising pharmacists’ awareness to administer the vaccine among adolescents could add facilitation in increasing human papillomavirus rates.

Description
This paper outlines a responsible innovation framework to evaluate technologies designed for education. Traditionally, technologies being implemented for development of education come from foreign nations with less cultural understanding of the needs of the country they are trying to serve. This framework outlines categories that impact the success or failure of an educational technology. The framework is explained and then applied to the SolarSPELL case; an offline digital library designed to bring information to resource constrained areas around the world. The purpose of this research is to explore the factors determining success and failure of educational technology projects and design a framework that can be used moving forward to assess projects prior to the final implementation stage to encourage more successful projects. The framework designed in this research proved useful for evaluating educational technology designed for resource constrained areas.

Libraries have historical and contemporary importance as public spaces that serve a purpose beyond storing books. In our thesis project, we wanted to ensure that the ASU Library was fulfilling this role for our student community. Based on a survey of 136 members of the Arizona State University community regarding accessibility of the Libraries, the results found that the ASU Library system could benefit from more accessible and digital content and programming. In response to our findings, we created a digital book display which highlighted resources about critical disability studies, the importance of community spaces and libraries in particular, as well as information about universal design. This book display serves as an example of what the future of book displays could be and how to create inclusive spaces in the university Library system. An Ocean of Stars is 310-page novel, written over the span of eight months. The story is one of friendship, love, loss, and finding home. It is centered on the idea that a human's deepest desire is to simply know who they are and where they're from. The two main characters, Alannis and Grey, go on an adventure to discover where they are really from--a hidden continent in the South Pacific Ocean--and stumble into friendship along the way. The novel is 82,000 words and is in the young adult fantasy fiction genre.

Then I will devote time to exploring two other major themes: (a) how religion utilizes sport and (b) how sport incorporates religion.

Description
The SolarSPELL Health: Nursing and Midwifery library was created to provide health students and professionals in developing and underprivileged countries with resources for evidence based practice learning, and to help improve women’s health in the country with the highest maternal mortality rate in the world. Our team partnered with local health schools to identify the greatest areas of need. The SolarSPELL team searched for open access materials aimed towards students and professionals in the health field, ensured that this content was relevant to the location and took into account the resources available, curated this content and ensured consistency throughout the process, and lastly packaged the material in a platform that was easy to access and navigate. South Sudan is the newest country in the world, and they lack significant resources, as do all of the countries that SolarSPELL serves. Receiving this library will allow the health students and professionals in South Sudan to utilize the resources they currently have, to provide evidenced based care, both saving and improving lives.
